URBAN COW GALLERY
EXHIBITION OPENING AUGUST 2008

SAMPLE SPACE
Anodised Aluminium works by
KEN BAKER
7 August to 29 Friday August 2008
Opening 6.30 PM Thursday 7 August
Ken Baker returns to Urban Cow Studio for his fourth year running, pushing hard at the boundaries with what is probably the most challenging base medium; anodised aluminium.
Ken Baker’s latest offerings in Sample Space take you on a 2D visual exploration into the depths of this unique material. Vivid colours and intricate etchings, each piece shining with the complexity and relationship Baker shares with his work. A complicated method, Baker applies the anodising dyes and acids by hand, as opposed to immersing, and selectively etches back areas to create individual multilayered works. An obsessive artist who freely admits that he finds anodised aluminium an object of “juju”; a magical or supernatural power within an object.
Amusing, mysterious and down right clever, Sample Space is an incredible feast for the mind and senses. Ken Baker presents an exhibition not to be missed during SALA 2008 (South Australian Living Artists Festival, August 1-17).
