Future Antiques Opening Night: Wednesday 4 April 2012 6-8pm Urban Cow Gallery, 11 Frome Street, Adelaide Artist: Jaan Poldaas An exhibition of glass works by Jaan Poldaas, Future Antiques showcases a version of classic glassware as seen through a futuristic lens. Interested in projecting what craft might be like in the future Jaan investigates a futuristic aesthetic. Or perhaps, what antique craftsmanship might look like if it had been created a thousand years from now. This collection, consisting of glassware, mainly goblets, bottles and platters, take the shape of abstracted table settings, suitable for spaceships that are reliving the Renaissance. Through the sleek and shiny nature of these Future Antiques, contrasting with antique ornate pedestals, shelves, and tables used to present the work, this imaginative exhibition challenges viewers to speculate as to what our historic and modern crafts might be like, or, if they’ll survive, in the millennia to come. |
RASHI VIZ This body of work is a journey into the exotic Middle East, inspired by Rashi's childhood memories and mesmerising enchanting imagery. More recently, explorations through Moorish Palaces whilst travelling, enhanced her appreciation for all things rich and intricate. She hopes the wearer also adventures to a whole new world, on a magic carpet ride, through an endless diamond sky…to return with a token from a faraway place. “When the wind's from the east Displayed from 1 April 2012 for the entire month.
